Nick Hayden practices, Rolando McClain doesn't
While Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo was able to practice for the second straight day Friday, defensive tackle Nick Hayden was able to practice for the first time this week and Rolando McClain and Tyrone Crawford missed their third straight days of practice.
Hayden has a shoulder injury but he is expected to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys are expecting Crawford, who suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament last week against the Arizona Cardinals to miss the game.
McClain’s status is iffy although he has played without practicing before. If he can’t play, then Anthony Hitchens would start at middle linebacker with Bruce Carter moving to the weak side and Kyle Wilber playing on the strong side.
With Crawford likely out, the Cowboys could give defensive end Jack Crawford more time at tackle this week. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said he would like to keep Henry Melton in the same 30-snap range, which would give Terrell McClain more work.
“I’ll bump him up maybe five reps maybe if we need it,” Marinelli said of Melton. “I’d like for him to get in first downs though too. He can affect it on first down. I’ve been trying to be smart with him and bringing him back the right way.”
