Cowboys DT David Irving likely to miss second consecutive game with concussion

David Irving will likely miss his second consecutive game as he works his way through concussion protocol.

The Cowboys defensive tackle has been held out of the team's past six practices since suffering a concussion in the win over Washington to end November. Irving is at the team's facility and taking part in meetings, but he hasn't been cleared to return to the field.

"We take it day by day," head coach Jason Garrett said. "He goes through a process with our trainers and the specialists and we'll just see where he is. At different times he's felt really good, trending forward, then at times not so good."

The team leaves for Oakland early Saturday afternoon. If Irving hasn't passed all of the tests by then, he won't make the trip.

"Again, so much of this is his feedback that he gives to us about how he's feeling, if he has any symptoms," Garrett said. "Jim Maurer (trainer) and his crew do a great job communicating with our players.

"We'll work our way through it."

Maliek Collins slid over one spot to start for Irving and Richard Ash stepped into the starting lineup for Collins against the New York Giants.
