Stephen Jones: Blame my family, not Romo, for lack of championship
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made an offer on Wednesday that will likely find many takers.
Jones was asked about who should shoulder the blame for the lack of Super Bowl titles during Tony Romo’s years as a starting quarterback and he said that the fault doesn’t lie with the quarterback, but with the people signing his checks.
“You know, certainly that doesn’t sit in Tony’s lap,” Jones said on KRLD, via FOX Sports Southwest. “That sits in our lap: Jerry and our family’s lap in terms of the organization. We have to, you know, do better at putting people around [Romo].”
Jones said he believes that the ring is “ultimately going to come” for Romo and his family’s improved work in terms of surrounding Romo with talent certainly makes that a likelier scenario. There’s little question about how much a decade filled with missed draft picks, whiffs in free agency and ill-advised cap management have hindered the Cowboys’ chances of winning a title, however.
