Cowboys work out three cornerbacks

With Tyler Patmon out with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, the Dallas Cowboys worked out cornerbacks Jonte Green, Lou Young and Robert Steeples on Thursday with the idea of adding one to the practice squad.

Green was a sixth-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2012. Young spent time with the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens this season. Steeples played in two games for the Minnesota Vikings last season and went to camp with the Kansas City Chiefs this summer.

Micah Pellerin has been on the practice squad all season and could be called up to the active roster in time for the Cowboys’ next game Nov. 23 against the New York Giants. Patmon is looking at 3-4 weeks of recovery from his injury suffered last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Cowboys had started to employ more dime defenses in the last few weeks and Patmon’s role increased, especially with injuries at the linebacker spot.

Watson signing not yet official

The signing of linebacker Dekoda Watson will be made official on Friday. He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Cowboys last week.

“[Watson is] a veteran player who’s a very good teams player, can go in and play on defense for us, has a comfort level with the scheme that we have both on special teams and on defense and did a nice job in the game the other day,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “I think he had a couple, three tackles and really kind of showed up. Kind of admired him from afar. Some of the coaches on our staff have been around him and really like him.”

Watson had both groins operated on before the season. He played in nine games with the Jaguars, with his first start coming against the Cowboys.

“Without a doubt, it’s a weird deal,” Watson said. “Just played against them and then the next thing you know these same guys are picking me up the following week. But [there are] a lot of guys that’s not in my position now that would love to be. It’s a blessing.”
