Rumor: Cowboys Could Sign Josh Brent
Well, it took all of 24 hours after the Cowboys released Kyle Orton for the rumors to start flying about what they might do to fill the roster spot opened up. If word on Twitter is to be believed, the Cowboys may very well use that roster spot to sign DT Josh Brent.
You might remember Brent as the young player who was charged with intoxication manslaughter after wrecking his car, leading to the death of teammate and dear friend Jerry Brown. The Cowboys have stood by and supported Brent throughout the legal process that has ensued, so perhaps it shouldn’t come as a great surprise that they are looking to give the young man an opportunity.
Even if they sign Brent, don’t look for him to be on the field in week one. While there has been plenty of speculation that the time Brent has been away from football while going through his trial and incarceration could be considered “time served” by Roger Goodell, that approach would be considered unusual.
