NFL zeroes in on three cities to host 2015 NFL Draft but Arlington hasn’t been removed from consideration
AT&T Stadium in Arlington is still in contention to host the 2015 NFL Draft, but the league has zeroed in on three cities — Los Angeles, New York and Chicago — as sites for its biggest spring event.
“We are focusing right now on those three cities. That could change,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.
Aiello refuted reports that said finalists have been named.
“No one has been eliminated,” he added.
New York’s Radio City Music Hall, where the draft has been held since 2006, won’t be available next April or May. But the Theater at Madison Square Garden will be. New York has been the site of the draft since 1965.
The Cowboys were among a slew of clubs to contact the NFL to express interest about hosting the event if the league decides to move it out of the Big Apple. But a source said they had no talks with the NFL about specifics.
Last month, executive vice president Stephen Jones made a public pitch to make the Cowboys’ stadium the next home of the draft.
“We’d love to have it. No question,” he said. “If they’re going to move it away from New York, or move parts of it away from New York, we’d certainly want to be in consideration. We think we have a great venue for it. We think we have great football fans in North Texas as well as Texas, and I think it would be a huge success.”
