July 14 set as trial date on Ronald Leary’s DWI charge

Cowboys guard Ronald Leary was arrested on DWI charges three months before defensive lineman Josh Brent got behind the wheel of a car while drunk and got into a crash that killed linebacker Jerry Brown in December 2012, but Leary’s case has not been resolved even though Brent has served his prison sentence after being convicted of intoxicated manslaughter.

Leary’s case should be coming to an end soon. The Dallas Morning News reports that July 14 has been set as the trial date on the Class B misdemeanor charges that Leary faces as a result of the September 7, 2012 arrest in Irving, Texas.

Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reports that Leary is not expected to be suspended by the league as a result of the arrest, although he could still be fined under the current agreement between the league and the NFLPA.

Leary was on the practice squad at the time of his arrest, but moved into the starting lineup last year and will be back at left guard for the Cowboys this season if he holds off Mackenzy Bernadeau and Uche Nwaneri this summer.
