Fight Breaks Out at Cowboys mini camp
Most of the stories coming out of the Cowboys’ mandatory three-day minicamp this week have been largely light-hearted or anecdotal. While this incident is certainly more serious in nature, it could probably be classified as “par for the course” as players start to hunger for some real contact through this string of the off-season where practices are held in shorts and t-shirts.
A scuffle broke out today between members of the offensive and defensive lines, reportedly starting when center Travis Frederick and defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford got tangled up after a play in team 7-on-7 drills. The incident started because Crawford didn’t like the way Frederick grabbed him.
“It’s a man’s game. I felt disrespected” Crawford told DallasNews.com. “It was just the way he grabbed me by the head. I was really upset.”
After Frederick and Crawford got into it, other members of the offensive and defensive line jumped in, with defensive lineman George Selvie and rookie offensive lineman Zack Martin apparently exchanging blows. Despite some heated exchanges taking place as many as a few plays later, Head Coach Jason Garrett said the team did a good job moving on from the incident afterward.
It seems like incidents like this happen with fair regularity this time in the off-season, and they typically don’t amount to much. Judging by the photos I saw on the Dallas Morning News article, it looked like Martin might have lost his helmet after a blow to the face from Selvie, but my guess is that they’ll do a lot worse when the pads come on later in the summer.
