Cowboys free agency rumors

Back on the 24th of February in “What I Don’t Know” I discussed how it seemed unfathomable that Demarcus Ware would play a down anywhere but in Dallas.  Well, strange things happen in the NFL.  The Dallas Cowboys and the All-Time Sack leader in franchise history decided to part ways and Ware took his services to the Mile High City and will look to help Peyton Manning capture a Super Bowl ring.

The move leaves Dallas very thin along the Defensive Line.  The have countered by adding 2012 Pro Bowl DT Henry Melton as well as Defensive Lineman Terrell McClain and Jeremy Mincey.  Neither figures to replace Ware although McClain seems a good bet to replace Nick Hayden and serve as an upgrade in the rotation. The Cowboys are still waiting on an Answer from Pro Bowler Jared Allen yet his chances of selecting the Cowboys seem slim.

FREE AGENCY:

bildeThe market for Free Agent Defensive Lineman is drying up and as I was told by one source the Cowboys are content in letting the next wave of Free Agents sign elsewhere before scrapping the left overs.  They are also keeping an eye on possible June cuts.  One name that has been brought up in my talks is former Broncos and 1st round pick DE Robert Ayers.  Ayers who will be 29 when the season starts has not yet scheduled a visit with Dallas and has been said to be sitting on more offers after his visit with the Cincinnati Bengals last week.  Both sides noted the interest and right now it seems the Cowboys are content on letting the market drop and Ayers is content on waiting to see who offers him the most money and is in no hurry to find out.

The door remains open for Cowboys FA Anthony Spencer.  I have been told the Cowboys are prepared to offer Spencer a “play and prove it” contract with limited guaranteed money and a load of incentives.  Spencer is not closed minded to the idea and as someone close to the player told me he is finding out with his injury the market on him is very slim.  It could be another month or two before any decision is made by Spencer as I was told.

I have found out the Cowboys reached out to the agent for Free Agent DT Alex Carrington last week but were told by his agent that Alex prefers to join the Browns and it appears his signing there should come this week.

Thomas-Decouddownload (2)I can confirm the Cowboys have been in contact with Free Agent WR Nate Burleson but have informed his agent they do not intend to progress further until after the draft and hope to speak to the Free Agent in June.  People close to Burleson say the WR is excited about the possibility of reuniting with former OC Scott Linehan and would provide Dallas with some flexibility being able to line up at all three positions.  It appears it would take a hefty offer to get Burleson off his couch at this time and is content on waiting for a big offer or a call from the Cowboys.

The Cowboys have made contact with Falcons FA S Thomas DeCoud but much like Burleson they are simply asking to be put “on hold” until after the draft and no visit is scheduled as of yet.
