Jerry Jones would like to see NFL franchise in London

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is excited about bringing his team to London this autumn, as he backed the idea of a team being based in the UK in the future.

The expansion of the NFL this side of the Atlantic continues to move on at pace, with this year three regular season games taking place at Wembley Stadium.

'America's team' will be one of the six showing up in the UK this year, as they play London regular Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bringing over one of the biggest teams in the USA is a big boost for NFL in the UK, and owner Jerry Jones is delighted to be bringing his team over to play in front of their UK fans.

"We were very anxious we got to play there," Jones told Sky Sports NFL. "We went there in 92/93 I think for a pre-season game, not a regular season game, at Wembley and I'm very excited about it.

"We've got a lot of really great Dallas Cowboys fans in London."

The Detroit Lions will play the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins take on Oakland Raiders in the other two games, with an early afternoon kick-off in London scheduled to give the game a national audience over in America.

All three games have sold out of tickets already, in another sign of the growing thirst for gridiron action in the UK and Europe, which only leads to more calls for a team to be based around London.

Many believe it is now only a matter of 'when' not 'if' a team is based in London, and Jones is among the owners that believe that is the way forward for the NFL.

"I think that's very possible and I'm very much for it," Jones added about a UK franchise.

"These games will be a good indication of the type of support that we could have there but London is one of the few cities outside of the United States that would be a great city internationally for the NFL."
