Stephen Jones: Cowboys will be cap tight again

The Cowboys are done paying the penalty for circumventing the salary cap, but all the other moves they made to work around that problem have left them tight again.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said they were nearly $25 million over the projected spending limit, forcing them to make moves before March, and limiting them thereafter.

“It’s still tight,” Jones said, via Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. “I think we always manage through it, but we’re still in a tight situation after coming off the penalties and the things like that. We’re still up against it.”

With potential big money deals on the horizon for free agent defensive tackle Jason Hatcher and defensive end Anthony Spencer, some guys will walk away.

They have some players with big cap numbers they can restructure to make room, and could cut some players such as wide receiver Miles Austin.

But that will add to future caps, keeping them from doing much to the core of a perpetual 8-8 team
