Jones Says Ware Ready To Play This Week vs. Saints
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is expected DeMarcus Ware on the field Sunday night in New Orleans.
The defensive end has missed three straight games with a quad injury but should be ready to make his return.
“I think he is ready,” Jones told the Cowboys’ flagship radio station “105.3 The Fan” Tuesday morning.
Ware has missed the only three games of his nine-year career because of this quad injury he suffered early in the Oct. 13 win over Washington. Ware had played 134 straight games, dating back to his first game of the 2005 season as a rookie.
If he returns this week, Ware would resume his starting role at defensive end, which has been filled by Kyle Wilber and Jarius Wynn, who got the last-minute start last week. On the other side, the Cowboys have been ecstatic by the play of George Selvie, a training-camp addition who has a career-high six sacks. Selvie has picked up the slack after Anthony Spencer went down with a knee injury.
As for other injuries, Jerry Jones didn’t seem as optimistic about the playing chances this week for Miles Austin and Morris Claiborne. Austin has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury and it’s clear the Cowboys want him to be 100 percent before his return. Claiborne wasn’t expected to play this week after suffering a hamstring injury against the Lions two weeks ago.
The bye week that follows the Saints game likely will play a role in the decision to sit or play certain players. Don’t forget the Cowboys have not had a week off since starting training camp on July 19.
