Cowboys to activate Josh Brent to the 53-man roster today

Nearly two years from the drunk driving accident which killed a teammate, Josh Brent is back in the NFL.

According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys will activate the defensive tackle to the 53-man roster today.

Brent has been with the team since completing his sentence for intoxication manslaughter, from the wreck that killed his college and pro teammate Jerry Brown.

Despite the severity of the charges, Brown’s family has been perhaps his biggest advocate for a second chance, and the Cowboys have backed him as well. They extended his contract by a year, committing to him through the 2015 season.

Coach Jason Garrett said that Brent still needed to lose some weight after such a long layoff, but the fact they activated him at the first opportunity should make it clear they have plans for him.
