Source: Cowboys won’t sell Sam practice-squad jerseys

Earlier today, a report emerged that the Cowboys will sell jerseys for practice-squad defensive end Michael Sam, bearing his current number, 46.  A source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT that this isn’t true.

Per the source, it’s not a simple proposition to order the mass production of a player’s jersey.  For Sam, who may be on the team for only a week or two (he technically remains available to sign with any team as a member of the 53-man roster), he could be a former Cowboy before the first jersey is shipped.

More importantly, if/when the Cowboys ever promote Sam to the active roster, he’ll have a different number, because defensive ends can’t wear numbers in the 40s.

Of course, that doesn’t stop fans from ordering personalized Cowboys jerseys bearing No. 46 and the name “Sam” on the back.  It also doesn’t prevent fans from buying one of his now-obsolete Rams jerseys bearing the No. 96.
