No deal: Dallas Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick won’t play Sunday at Tennessee Titans

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick wasn’t added to the club’s active roster Saturday and won’t play Sunday at the Tennessee Titans.

Late Friday, NFL player representatives for the union voted to approve new substance abuse and performance enhancing drug policies, setting the stage for Scandrick to return to the team.

However, the NFL has yet to reach an agreement with the union on the revisions to the drug policies.

The Cowboys had until 3 p.m. Saturday to add Scandrick to their 53-man roster and remove him from the reserve/suspended list. That deadline has passed. And with no deal finalized, Scandrick won’t be able to play against the Titans. He was still in his home state of California on Saturday and didn’t travel with the team to Nashville, Tenn.

Scandrick tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance after drinking a cocktail that included MDMA – known as “Molly” – cut with an amphetamine. He took the drug while vacationing in Mexico in April.

Scandrick was suspended in August the first four regular-season games.

Under the revised policies approved by NFL player representatives from each team, a first-time positive test for amphetamines will now be evaluated under the substance abuse policy and not the PED policy. Under the substance abuse policy, there is no suspension for a first-time offense such as Scandrick’s.

Also, the changes are retroactive for players suspended under the previous policies, according to a statement released Friday evening from the NFL Players Association.

If the league signs off on the revised drug policies next week, Scandrick is expected to be reinstated immediately and would be eligible to play in the Cowboys’ Week 3 game at St. Louis.

In the meantime, SMU-ex Sterling Moore will continue to man the nickel cornerback spot with Scandrick still suspended.
