Cowboys most underrated defensive player

This is going to be a two part series. We are going to look at the most underrated players from both sides of the ball from the 2013 Dallas Cowboys. The first part is looking at the most underrated defensive player.

There were not a lot of bright spot on the Cowboy's roster from the defensive side of the ball. We know the stats and the poor rankings. We will not go over them again. There was a bright spot for three players on defensive. Jason Hatcher ended his last season in Dallas tabulating 11 sacks, 3 pass deflections and 2 forced fumbles. These numbers sent Hatcher off to Washington with a nice off season deal. Orlando Scandrick emerged as a solid cornerback after the injury of Morris Claiborne. Posting 2 sacks, 59 tackles and 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. This also earned Scandrick a nice contract.

We know these players but who was the underrated man on the Cowboy's defense.

Barry Church

Church also had his best season as a Cowboy. Church was one of the few Cowboys, possibly the only Cowboy to play all 16 games in 2013. Church was an early man to watch to get a pro bowl nod midway thought the season. The rest of the team injuries forced Church to take on more at safety and changed the way he played defense. Dallas had Church's playing a hybrid linebacker role which made his tackle numbers improve by more than a hundred from his previous seasons. Church posted 107 solo tackles (135 combined), 3 forced fumbles. Including 1 fumble recovery for 27 yards that ended with Barry in the end zone.
