Player Profile Series: Cole Beasley

The player profile series is about looking into the future with players on the Cowboys roster.
The player must have 3 things going for them in order to be listed.

1. Having been with the Cowboys for 3 year's or less.
2. Must have been, or projected to be a starter for the Cowboys.
3. Must have an upside to them.

Cole Beasley

College: SMU

Position: WR #11

Who is he? Beasley is a player that emerged in 2013. Beasley was picked up by Dallas in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. Injuries hampered his first season but this year we saw what Beasley can do. He is a Wes Welker style player that is dangerous in the slot and converting 3rd downs.

What is expected from him in 2014?  Beasley will be expected to expand his role on the team. Beasley major factor coming into 2013 wad being healthy which he accomplished. With Romo now knowing he can depend on Beasley to stay on the field his production will have to increase. Teams stated figuring out late Cole was a player that they had to keep their eyes on in 3rd down situations. Coming into this season Beasley needs to be a player that teams watch on 1st and 2nd down as well.

What he needs to work on?  Cole needs to work on returning kicks and punts as he seems like a viable option of DeWayne Harris' offensive role expands. Cole needs to also work on Route running. Cole makes mistakes on the tail ends coming off of his breaks that were costly for Dallas. This needs to be corrected. In order to get on the field in 1st down slot packages Beasley has to prove that he can block. Demarco Murry got a lot of carries on spread sets Beasley needs to learn how to hold his blocks to help Murray exploit the defensive backfield.

What can this player be in the future? This comparison will get but when you have the build and size of West Welker who else can we compare you with? Beasley is talented and is proving himself as legitimate 3rd down threat. His size and lack of playing playing time keeps him behind Harris on the depth chart. Beasley needs to prove himself in order to be a permanent fixture at the slot position.
