Dallas creates more cap room by restructuring Tony Romo

As the Cowboys work to become compliant with the salary cap, they’ve gone to one of the usual suspects.

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys have restructured the contract of quarterback Tony Romo to create $10 million worth of cap space.

They simply converted $12.5 million of his base salary to bonus for the purpose of proration, kicking the can down the road, and pushing their current cap-tightness into the future.

Once finalizing that move (along with restructures for linebacker Sean Lee and Orlando Scandrick), they’re within $1 million of the salary cap.

They still have decisions to make on the futures of defensive end DeMarcus Ware and wide receiver Miles Austin, whose deals could be reworked or made to go away to save more money.
