Stand out players that fit the Cowboys draft board from the NFL scouting combine; Day 4

Here we are the 2nd speed portion of the draft. Also the final day of the draft.

Ha Ha Clinton Dix - Alabama- FS -4.58 40 yard dash 11 reps bench press. 33" vertical jump 11' 9" broad jump. Many believe to be the Cowboys 1st round pick. If Dallas selects Dix, I will slit my wrist. Don't get me wrong I love Dix but we don't need another safety. We could use another safety but not at pick 16. A safety can't help you get to the quarterback on ever single down. Best available does not play into account here. If Dallas selects Dix just wait for 2015.

Calvin Pryor - Louisville - S - 4.58 40 yard dash. 18 bench press.

First Team All-American Athletic Conference.
Strengths Very good instincts. Physical, lights-out hitter (see second defensive snap of UCF game). Very aggressive running the alley and seeks to make his presence felt in the run game. Sacrifices his body. Defensive tempo-setter. Made a spectacular, one-handed INT vs. UCF. Good pre-snap recognition -- makes adjustments. Explosive tackler. Can leverage the field off the hash and cover ground. Good zone recognition. Rangy enough to play center field. Carries a swagger and plays with confidence.

Weakness Plays with too much reckless abandon and lacks discipline playing the cutback. Takes some bad angles and can be outflanked to the perimeter. Average production on the ball. Is not asked to play a lot of man coverage.

A big, physical, hammering run defender brings an enforcer mentality to the box and an intimidating, punishing presence to the back end. Is arguably the most violent hitter in this year's draft class and should make his presence felt readily in the pros.

Jimmie Ward NIU - SS- 4.59 40 yard dash. 9 bench press.

Strengths Flies around the field. Aggressive run supporter. Shoots downhill and chops down ball carriers. Breaks on throws and shows short-area burst to close. Has quick hands to snatch interceptions. Confident and energetic. Productive -- registered 300 tackles and 11 INTs in three seasons as a starter. Has a special-teams mentality and four blocked kicks to his credit.

Weakness Size is just adequate -- lacks ideal bulk and is built more like a cornerback than a safety. Can be a tick late diagnosing pass, gaining depth and digesting route combos. Lacks elite top-end speed. Has man-coverage limitations. Inconsistent downfield ball reactions with his back to the throw. Limited functional strength to discard blockers when he gets snagged. Shows lower-body stiffness in space. Has some maturing to do and needs to learn what it means to prepare like a pro. Could rub some people the wrong way.

Wiry, active, aggressive strong safety at his best playing downhill and reacting to plays in front him. Lacks starter-caliber size, instincts, range and cover skills, but could serve as a backup and special-teams contributor.
