Dallas Cowboys adding two assistant coaches to staff, shifting responsibilities for assistant Keith O’Quinn

The Dallas Cowboys will hire Kyle Valero as an offensive assistant coach and have shifted the responsibilities for offensive assistant Keith O’Quinn as they work toward finalizing the coaching staff for the 2014 season.

O’Quinn will become an assistant special teams coach for the Cowboys under special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. He replaces Chris Boniol, who left the Cowboys shortly after the season ended. O’Quinn has worked the last four seasons as an offensive quality control/assistant coach. The last three seasons he’s helped coach the wide receivers.

Valero spent the last four seasons as an offensive assistant with the Detroit Lions. He also helped coach wide receivers with the Lions and is expected to do the same with the Cowboys now that O’Quinn is shifting responsibilities. Valero coached under Scott Linehan in Detroit. Linehan is now the Cowboys’ passing game coordinator and will be the club’s offensive play-caller in 2014.

Updated: The Cowboys will also hire Turner West as an assistant coach. West, 26, spent last season in his first year as a graduate assistant coach at Middle Tennessee. West is the son of former Memphis football coach Tommy West and played wide receiver for the Tigers from 2006 to 2009.
