Why are so MANY college QBs good in the pros? - O.T.I.S.

Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Robert Griffin III, Sam Bradford and Christian Ponder.

What do all these quarterbacks have in common? They are or were first year quarterbacks that started immediately. The days of the rookie hot shot QB, (ex. Carson Palmer) sitting behind a vet (Jon Kitna) are over.

We live in a “WE WANT IT NOW” society and the NFL is no different, with fans speaking their minds on every sports talk radio station and blog. Fans want to win now. Owners want to win now. But is this JUST a predicate of a want it now society? No. NFL rules have MADE this a passing league, if you have the arm strength and accuracy you will play, thus making the pros equivalent to COLLEGE.

In college thats what you want to do, throw the ball, pending you don’t have Trent Richardson or Adrian Peterson in the backfield. Does this mean every good quarterback in college will be a good NFL quarterback, NO.

Is anyone familiar with the University of Houston. If not let me refresh you on some quarterbacks that went to the University of Houston. David Klingler, Andre Ware (as in heisman trophy winning quarterback Andre Ware), Kevin Kolb and Case Keenum.

Kingler was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals and was a bust, Ware drafted by the Lions and had nominal, very nominal, success many in Detroit consider him a bust as he was second fiddle to Rodney Peete his entire career. And then there Kevin Kolb, this guy got his job by default. The guy that was traded from the Eagles to the Cardinals and was touted this “Great QB” that great QB was Andy Reid’s smoke and mirrors. I’m not saying anything negative against Andy Reid but quarterbacks in HIS system do VERY well, outside it...Not so much.

The moral of this story

NEVER TRUST UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON QUARTERBACKS

Last and prime example Case Keeman and this isn’t personal but this guy lit it up in Houston for over 5,500+ plus yards (an NCAA record). So When David Piland come out of college in 2014 lets not be surprised.

So why are so many college QBs good in the pros? Its a dividend of three things the NFL passing rules, college success and the system that a quarterback will be in once he enters the NFL plus his surrounding cast. All quarterbacks named earlier are doing good, now Blaine Gabbert in Jacksonville with no wide receivers and a new coach...well you get my drift.
