Has Tony Romo Peaked?

The 2014 season for the Dallas Cowboys was overall pretty successful. Not only were they able to make the playoffs, but they won a game and competed against the very best teams in the league. With that being said, the 2015 season will present plenty of challenges. They will need to replace DeMarco Murray’s production, and several other players will need to step up as well. Of course, Dallas will also need their franchise quarterback Tony Romo to put up the same type of numbers in fantasy football. Is he capable of that, or have we seen the best of this quarterback?

Romo might not have the playoff success of some of the best quarterbacks in this generation, but in fantasy football he has been extremely consistent. He had one of his best statistical seasons in 2014, and it was vindication for a guy who recently signed a long-term deal to stay with Dallas. He received some great news late in the summer when Dallas was able to lock up his top target, Dez Bryant, for the long term as well.

As solid as Romo has been, some might not realize that he is already 35 years old. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning show that you can play well past that age, but they are all-time greats. Romo isn’t on that level, and that could mean he could start to level off as he approaches the age of 40. Bryant is coming back, but some of his other reliable teammates are aging as well. For example, the wear and tear on Jason Witten led to his lowest total yardage since his rookie year.

Dallas knows that they need Romo to have any shot at a Super Bowl run. He was extremely efficient last year throwing 34 touchdowns and just 9 interceptions. Older quarterbacks tend to make smarter decisions, so maybe he is simply transitioning into the latter part of his career. If he regresses, this team is back to being a fringe playoff squad.
