Tony Romo not practicing as normal week begins
Even though it’s Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys are on a Wednesday practice schedule, so quarterback Tony Romo is sitting out.
Romo took part in the morning walk-through but he has not practiced on a Wednesday in a normal practice week since the second week of the season. He went through practice last week as the Cowboys prepared for the Philadelphia Eagles, but the team never practiced at more than a jog-through pace leading up to the game.
Romo struggled, throwing for only 199 yards and getting intercepted twice by the Eagles. He did not throw a touchdown pass for the first time in 39 games.
Romo was not the only offensive player missing. Left tackle Tyron Smith is sick and not practicing.
On the defensive side of the ball, safety Jeff Heath (thumb), cornerback Tyler Patmon (knee) and linebacker Dekoda Watson (hamstring) are not practicing. Heath could be available to play against the Bears after undergoing surgery last week.
The players are in pads for practice as Jason Garrett attempts to convince them it is a “Wednesday.”
“What was strange was driving home last night and usually I’m driving home on a Tuesday night and there’s nothing happening on the road,” Garrett said. “There were lot of people out, enjoying Saturday night so that was a little strange for me. The drive in this morning was really as clean as can be so you actually get yourself oriented to the rest of the world. But inside this building it’s all about Wednesday right now.”
